Because today I am feelin’ groovy

July 18, 2007

And I am remembering a time when I was really enjoying reading Joseph Campbell:

People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.

- Joseph Campbell (1904 – 1987)

“The rapture of being alive.” I like that.

  1. Joseph Campbelll – a wise soul. I agree – the meanng is far less important than just the expereince of being alive. I think people vary on how much the seek or can even tolerate “the rapture of being alive.” Becuse with it you also must expereince the depth of sorrow, fear, anger, etc. I think it’s a fair trade-off, but not everyone does.
