Oh, Alice, where art thou?!

July 29, 2007

Would someone let me know if the housekeeper is coming soon?

I keep expecting one to show up, and no one ever comes.

My house is looking worse by the minute.

Please, send help soon. I beg you! I’m holding the baklava hostage until some kind soul answers my plea. And for those of you who think I’m joking, I’m not. I’m totally cereal. I mean serious. Yeah. Serious. Like a heart attack. I need help. And that’s no yolk, folks.

Philosophical question for the day

July 21, 2007

I’ll give you a topic:

British philosopher and novelist Iris Murdoch (1919 – 1999) once postulated that one of the secrets to a happy life is continuous small treats.

Yes? No? Maybe so?

I bought myself some baklava the other afternoon at lunch, but it wasn’t very good. But maybe that’s only because I wasn’t eating it for breakfast.

At any rate, it’s left me hoping that the Christmas baklava makes it back to Costco shelves. Soon.

I treated myself to brie and sun-dried tomatoes tonight and was grateful for my own thoughtfulness to myself. (Inner voice: What do you MEAN, Angela?! Thoughtfulness to yourself? That’s like a contradiction in terms, isn’t it?)

Asking for what I need.

Finding inner peace.

Going along with the ride.

Enjoying small treats.

Yep. That about sums it up.

Talking Cats

Happy weekend, all!

And as for the cats, as Kevin Nealon used to say: “And that’s news to me.”

In my dreams

I am as witty as Heather.

Happy birthday to a woman who helps me laugh.

Thank you!

Because today I am feelin’ groovy

July 18, 2007

And I am remembering a time when I was really enjoying reading Joseph Campbell:

People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.

Joseph Campbell (1904 – 1987)

“The rapture of being alive.” I like that.

What I love about this life

July 17, 2007

It never ceases to amaze me that the universe seems to present things to me at just the right time when I’m needing them, whether it be a reality check, a kick in the butt or words of inspiration.

In a complete random accident (I was trying to make sure that I spelled “magnificence” correctly), I stumbled on these little words of affirmation. I know that many of us need to hear these, so I share them with you in the hopes that they remind you of just how magnificent you are, too!

Know that You Are Loved

And while I can’t speak to the authors of the You Are Magnificent page, I do know that what they wrote was something I needed to hear today.

So how about it? Do you love receiving shameless love and adoration? What makes you (yes, you!) magnificent? Go on and brag a bit. You deserve it!!
